Don’t Miss Out: How the CDAP Grant Can Boost Your Small Business
Updated: Dec 16, 2024
The Canada Digital Adoption Program (CDAP) Grant has been a game changer for small businesses looking to step up their digital game. But it’s set to pause at the end of September. So, if you’ve been thinking about taking your business online or improving your digital presence, now’s the time to take action!
Let’s dive into what this grant is all about and how it can help your business!
What is the CDAP Grant?
The CDAP Grant is a great way for small businesses in Canada to get a digital boost. You can get up to $2,400 to spend on different services that will help improve your online presence and make your business run smoother. Whether you’re looking to develop a new e-commerce website, improve your social media marketing, or strengthen your googleability, this grant offers the flexibility to invest in areas that will make the biggest impact on your business.
Who is Eligible for the CDAP Grant?
To snag the CDAP Grant, your business needs to tick a few boxes. Your business must meet this criteria:
For-Profit Business: Your business has to be a for-profit one, including social enterprises and co-ops that make a profit.
Officially Registered: Your business should be officially registered or incorporated.
Selling to Consumers: You need to be selling goods or services directly to customers.
Employee or Revenue Check: You should have at least one employee (not counting yourself) or made at least $30,000 in revenue last year.
Digital Strategy Commitment: You’ll need to stick with a digital adoption plan for at least six months.
Program Participation: You’ll also need to agree to take part in follow-up surveys, share your experience, and let your business name be published as a grant recipient.
Who Doesn’t Qualify for the CDAP Grant?
Not every business is eligible for the grant, so double-check to make sure you’re not in one of these categories:
Corporate chains, franchises, and registered charities aren’t eligible.
MLM reps (multi-level marketing companies) don’t qualify.
Brokerage firms like real estate agents, investment advisors, and insurance agents can’t apply.
Online resellers or drop-shippers relying on third-party suppliers aren’t eligible either.
Wholesale, distribution businesses, and manufacturers can’t get the grant unless they’re selling directly to consumers.
How Can You Use the CDAP Grant?
The $2,400 CDAP Grant offers you the chance to enhance your business's digital presence, and we at STGP are here to help you make the most of it. Here’s how you can use the grant with our services:
E-commerce Website Development: You can use the funds to create a new e-commerce website or add essential features to your existing site, such as online booking systems, electronic payment options, or SEO enhancements.
E-commerce Platforms & Software: The grant can cover the costs associated with installing and subscribing to an e-commerce platform.
Digital Marketing Strategy: You can hire a consultant to develop digital marketing strategies for your e-commerce store. However, it's important to note that the grant cannot be used solely for social media advertising or digital marketing; these activities must be part of a broader e-commerce strategy.
Keep in mind that while redesigning an existing website isn’t officially covered, any improvements or new features we help you add will be directly aligned with your e-commerce goals defined in the grant application. In other words, we can redesign or make improvements to your website as part of the CDAP Grant, as long as we can demonstrate that it will improve your SEO (Search Engine Optimization).
How Can You Get Started?
Applying for the CDAP Grant is straightforward and involves four key steps:
Check Eligibility: Start by reviewing the eligibility criteria to ensure that your business qualifies for the grant.
Connect with a Service Provider: Reach out to us or another local service provider who can guide you through the process and support you with the application. Feel free to book a chat with Kim here: www.stgp.ca/book-a-chat
Submit Your Application: Submit your grant application and start planning how you’ll use the funds to boost your digital presence. While you’re waiting to hear back about your application, this is a great time to work with your service provider to get a quote and finalize plans, details, and costs.
Fill out Your Spending Plan: Once you’ve been generally approved for the grant, you’ll be assigned a CDAP Grant contact person and you will meet with them. They will give you a Spending Plan spreadsheet to fill out. We can help with that, if you like!
Once your Spending Plan is approved, then you’re ready to get to work with your service provider!
CDAP Grant FAQs
Q: I don’t want to sell products online. Can I still be eligible?
A: YES! E-commerce doesn’t just mean selling physical products online. We have worked with several businesses who have added things like an online quote form, an online appointment booking system, or even just improved their “Contact Us” form.
Q: How long does it take for my application to be approved?
A: It takes up to 2 months for your initial application to be approved and then it can take a couple of weeks for your Spending Plan to be approved.
Q: When do I get the money?
A: You will be reimbursed after the work is completed and you send in the receipts and proof of payment. It takes several weeks to receive the payment from the Federal Government.
