You Launched Your Wix Website! Now What?

Congratulations, you did it!

Your new website is live. Take a second and let that sink in.

We've built over 100 websites at Small Town Girl Promotions, and launch day never gets old. Our clients often don't realize all the little details that go into a website... until it all comes together and they see it for the first time. That moment? It's our favourite part.

But now the excitement settles in, and a new question pops up: "Okay... now what?"

Maybe you're worried you'll break something. Maybe you're not "techy." Maybe you just don't have time to figure it all out. Good news: you don't have to.

This guide walks you through everything you need to care for your new Wix website, from making simple edits to keeping your domain safe to sharing your site with the world. And if you ever get stuck, remember: we're only an email away.

Want it all in one place? Download the free Website Launch Checklist and check things off as you go.

Watch first: how to edit your Wix website

Grab a coffee and press play. In this 12-minute tutorial, I walk you through the basics of managing and editing your Wix website, sharing my own screen so you can follow along.

Short on time? Jump to what you need:

  • 0:36 Logging in to Wix

  • 0:48 A tour of your Wix dashboard

  • 1:15 Roles and permissions (who can edit your site)

  • 1:54 Your inbox, site stats, blog and orders

  • 2:42 The undo button (your new best friend)

  • 3:08 Editing text with drag and drop

  • 4:01 Swapping photos

  • 4:08 Adding a new section

  • 5:14 Previewing on desktop and mobile

  • 5:31 Publishing your changes

  • 6:34 Uploading new photos

  • 8:00 Adding a new page

  • 9:10 Staying inside the dotted lines

  • 10:03 Where to find more help

My top 4 tips from the video:

  1. The undo button is your safety net. It's in the top right corner of the editor. Moved something by accident? Undo. Deleted the wrong thing? Undo. You really can't break it.

  2. Nothing changes until you hit Publish. If your edits aren't showing up on your live site, this is almost always why.

  3. Always check your mobile version. Most of your visitors are on their phones. Look for big gaps, overlapping text or cut-off images before you publish.

  4. Stay inside the dotted lines. Those guides keep your content from getting cut off on different screen sizes. Just like colouring in kindergarten!

Wix also has a built-in Help button (top of your editor and dashboard) that walks you through almost anything, step by step. It's surprisingly good.

STGP clients: don't forget your launch perks!

If we built your website, you've got a few goodies waiting for you.

  • One hour with your website designer. Choose 1 hour of one-on-one training OR 1 hour of edits. Save up your questions (write them down as they come up!) and book your session within 3 months of launch.

  • A launch shout-out on our socials. We love bragging about our clients. Keep an eye out, then share it with your people.

  • A custom launch graphic. Want to announce your new website on your own social media? Just ask, and we'll create a branded graphic for you.

Your site was built by Ashton or Chris, our website designers. They're both trained and certified in graphic design AND website design (yes, they went to school for both!), so you're in very good hands.

Protect your website: domain and Premium plan renewals

This is the boring part... but it's also the most important. Your website runs on two separate subscriptions, and they renew separately.

  • Your Premium plan is your hosting. It's what keeps your website online. It's purchased through Wix.

  • Your domain is your address (like yourbusiness.ca). It might be through Wix, or it might live somewhere else, like GoDaddy.

You own your Wix account, your Premium plan and your domain. We help set it all up at launch, but the renewals are yours. If either one lapses, your website can go offline. Worst case? Someone else snaps up your domain.

Keep your website safe:

  • Find your renewal dates in your Wix dashboard (search "Subscriptions" in that handy search bar) and pop them in your calendar.

  • Turn on auto-renew.

  • Keep your payment card up to date. An expired card is the sneakiest way to lose a website.

  • Know where your domain lives. If it's not with Wix, you'll get renewal notices from that company instead.

  • Watch your inbox for renewal reminder emails.

A quick word about scam emails. Fake "your domain is expiring!" emails are very common. Before you click anything or pay anything, check who it's really from. A real Wix email comes from wix.com, not a random Gmail address or a strange-looking domain. When in doubt, log in to Wix directly (not through the email link), or forward it to us and we'll take a look.

Now, share it with the world

A beautiful website nobody sees is like throwing a party and forgetting to send the invitations. Put your new web address everywhere your customers already find you:

  • Social media bios: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, and your "link in bio"

  • Your email signature: every email you send becomes a tiny ad

  • Your Google Business Profile: this one matters a lot for local search

  • Print materials: business cards, brochures, signage, vehicle decals

  • Paperwork: invoices, receipts and quotes

  • Directories and memberships: your Chamber of Commerce, industry associations and local listings

Then tell your people. Not a stiff announcement... a real one. Send a personal email or post about why you built this website and what it means for your business. People connect with people, and your story is what makes them click.

Need new business cards with your web address? Want us to share the news on your socials? That's exactly what we do. More on that below!

Keep it fresh (without the overwhelm)

Your website isn't a "set it and forget it" thing. But it doesn't need much either. A few minutes a month keeps it working hard for you.

Your first week:

  • Download the Wix mobile app so you can answer inquiries and make quick edits on the go.

  • Send a test message through your contact form. Make sure it lands in an inbox you actually check!

  • Keep STGP on your account as a collaborator (you'll find it under Roles and Permissions). That way, if something goes sideways, we can log in, take a quick peek and help you fast.

Once a month:

  • Update your hours, prices, seasonal info or upcoming events.

  • Add a fresh photo, a new testimonial or a blog post.

  • Peek at your site stats to see how many people are visiting.

Can I really do this myself? Yes! Most edits are totally doable on your own: changing words, swapping photos, updating hours. But if you ever feel intimidated, or you'd simply rather spend your time running your business, reach out. That's what we're here for.

When you want a hand, we're here

You don't have to do it all yourself. (Seriously. You're allowed to ask for help!) Here's how we can keep supporting you after launch:

  • Website edits: $85/hour, or $65/hour for non-profits. Big change or tiny tweak, just send us an email.

  • Business cards and print materials: fresh designs with your new web address front and centre. See graphic design services

  • Google Business Profile maintenance: we keep your profile active, reply to reviews and post updates so local customers find you. See Get Found services

  • Social media management: we create and schedule your posts, so your website keeps getting the traffic it deserves. See social media packages

  • Monthly SEO packages: a great fit if you have lots of local competition and want to show up higher on Google. See SEO services

Don't have a website yet? Or built your own on Wix?

First of all... good for you for getting started! If your DIY site isn't quite doing what you hoped, or you just don't have the time, we'd love to help. Here are a few of the 100+ websites our team has built:

What our website clients say:
"It was hard to make the decision to hire an outside company to do my website. I feel as a small business owner, I should do it all myself! But the reality is I don't have the skill set or the time to figure it all out, and I finally accepted that I don't have to! ... Kim gently laid out the business plan, explained the web 'stuff' in easy to understand English, has been excellent at communicating with me every step and has ensured that I always get the final say." Naomi Holland, Escalate the Conversation
"Kim and Ashton were extremely responsive in regards to website and logo design. Kim kept track of progress every step of the way and supported me with all the bits that I didn't even know I didn't know." Shari Leedahl, Trailhead Wellness Collective
"They listened to our needs and tailored a wonderful new website for us, answered all our questions and showed us how to make the most of it. Highly recommend their services!" Didsbury Preschool Society

Your next 3 steps

  1. Watch the training video (it's short, I promise).

  2. Download your Website Launch Checklist and start checking things off. Get the checklist

  3. Leave us a Google review. If you loved working with us, it truly means the world to a small business like ours. Leave a review
